Manaslu Trekking is a remarkable trek, passing through a huge and spectacular valley with stunning views of Manaslu (8156m), and crossing the famed Larkya La pass to the contrasting region of Sama, returning via the Marsyandi. The trail passes through a geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating area with scenery similar to the classic Annapurna Circuit.
The trek starts at Arughat, a full day’s drive from Kathmandu, passing the historic town of Gorkha on the way. The trail passes through bamboo forests and Gurung villages in the narrow Burdhi Gandaki gorge with perpendicular cliffs and tracks high above the river. As we approach predominantly Buddhist villages of Namrung and Lho, you will see colourful prayer flags, mani walls and monasteries along the way. In Samagoan (3450m) we visit the glacial green lake of Birendra, before crossing into mystic Samdo village, a mere 15km from the Tibetan border. We start the approach towards the Larkya La pass from here. Crossing this high Himalayan pass is a challenging day but within the capability of any fit and determined hill walker with no previous mountaineering experience. The view from the Larkya La Pass is superb with Himal Chuli, Manaslu, Cheo Himal and Himlung Himal mountains towering above. The trail descends down to another equally spectacular Bimtang valley, leading down to Dharapani where it joins the Annapurna Circuit track on the Mersyandi River.
The Manaslu Circuit trek will reward you with stunning mountain views, spectacular valleys, experience of Tibetan culture and the achievement of crossing the dramatic Larkya La Pass.
The Mansalu trek follows the trail leading to several mountain peaks popularly known as “Japanese Peaks”. The trail from Arughat bazaar to Ekle Bhatti passes through a huge precipitous valley to the contrasting world of Sama crossing snow-covered Larkya La Pass and descending to the Marshyangdi Khola (river). The Mansalu trek starts at the town of Soti Khola passing through bamboo forests and Gurung villages. After Lho village we enter the Nupri region inhabited by Tibetan immigrants where you will see colourful prayer flags, mani walls and monasteries along the way.
After Samdo village we start the approach towards the Larkya La pass, crossing this high Himalayan pass is a challenging day although would be a good objective for a fit hill walker with no previous mountaineering experience. The view from the Larkya La is superb where you will see Himal Chuli, Manaslu, Cheo Himal and Himlung Himal mountains.
